I was scrolling through Pinterest the other day when I came across the work of an artist by the name of Donald Robertson. I immediately fell in the love with his free-hand illustrations that evoke a bit of colorful whimsy.
After some research I learned that Robertson is recognized as a professional not in art, but in the world of beauty. The illustrator has been working for Estee Lauder for years, most recently serving as Bobbi Brown's head of creative development.
It was only three years ago that Donald Robertson decided to 'reinvent' himself as 'Drawbertson' on Instagram, showcasing the whimsical freehand illustrations that his socialite and beauty maven friends had been commissioning for their Upper East Side town homes for years.
According to a June 10th 2015 New York Times article, "Mr. Robertson set out to be a fashion illustrator as a young man in the early 1980's, moving from his native Canada to Paris only to find there weren't enough opportunities to earn a living. So he's as surprised as anyone to now find himself collaborating with J.Crew on a line of T-shirts bearing his work, or "art bombing" (his term) Bergdorf Goodman's women's and men's stores on Fifth Avenue with messy, cheeky drawings of the fashion world and it's icons."
