Ezra and Alia Raza, friends and self-professed ”fragrance nerds,” have combined their collective nerdiness and artful eyes (Ezra, a former stylist, and Alia, a video artist) into a line of handmade perfumes that manages to be opulent without pretense, and lighthearted without feeling too young or quirky. They smell of things like steel, a rainy city street, seashells, face creams, and talc cosmetics combined with real tuberose absolute, jasmine oil, and all sorts of uncommonly high percentages of authentic old-school fragrance ingredients to create an olfactory sensation that makes you immediately understand what Alia means when she says wacky things like, “Turquoise imagines a teenaged Marie Antoinette gone abroad to India,” or, “Water/Wood is the scent of a pine forest under water.” One spritz of Nitesurf, and you’re like, “Yes, yes! This is totally what a neon orange blossom on Venice Beach at night smells like!” And the bottles? They speak for themselves.
